Housing Specialist Jewish Family Service of Western MA is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Housing Specialist. The ideal candidate will have a background in social services, a deep understanding of the housing process, and a commitment to cultural competency, effective communication, and empathy. Position Details: Position: Housing Specialist Program: New American Program Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt Reports to: Emergency Response Coordinator Location: Springfield, MA Responsibilities: Help clients navigate and access HomeBase through completing applications and gathering required documentation. Conduct community housing outreach including to landlords, property management organizations and housing authorities. Provide case management support to families placed in emergency housing, addressing their immediate needs and facilitating their transition into the community. Provide transportation for clients to various appointments, including medical, legal, educational, and social service appointments if needed. Conduct apartment assessments to ensure they comply with HomeBase and other housing programs. Accompany clients to view housing options and meet with landlords to secure permanent housing. Collaborate with partner organizations to connect families with relevant resources and services in the community. Foster open and effective communication channels with landlords and families. Educate families about the HomeBase process to set realistic expectations. Provide families with information regarding the general housing process including their rights and responsibilities. Conduct regular check-ins and meetings with clients to address concerns, provide guidance, and ensure the well-being of all parties involved. Implement program policies and procedures in line with the organization\'s mission and grant guidelines. Qualifications: Bachelor\'s degree in social work, human services, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Previous experience in social services, case management, or emergency housing programs. Knowledge of the asylum-seeking process and challenges faced by vulnerable families is preferred. Strong cultural competency, with an understanding and respect for diverse backgrounds. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Empathy and a commitment to providing compassionate support. Valid driver\'s license with a clean driving record and access to a reliable vehicle. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. Proficiency in basic computer applications and willingness to learn new software programs.
