  • Position Summary*

Leads a team of Engineers, responsible to ensure 24/7 technical support on AOG and aircraft undergoing maintenance, modification and/or heavy checks. Executes documentation for Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins, Reliability and Maintenance Program initiatives across a specific range of ATA’s. Provides guidance and mentorship to Engineers in the group and ensures key initiatives receive prompt attention and resources.

  • Key Responsibilities*

Oversees the group responsible for evaluating, assisting and designing repairs for both composite and metallic structures. Ability to author and substantiate various repair schemes in accordance with industry accepted practices and FAA standards. Assists in maintaining the corrosion mitigation program, familiar with fatigue, strength of materials and aircraft structures.

  • The position requires application of engineering principles to research technical, operational, and quality issues, as well as determining interim and final engineering solutions, and responding to OEM/Vendor and internal questions and reported problems through internal and external communication

  • Prepares, creates, reviews and approves engineering documentation in accordance with HA Engineering Standard Operating Procedures and processes. Includes repairs, modifications, alterations and STC’s.

  • Utilizes technical expertise and practical experience to disposition complex technical issues

  • Reviews documents including CMM’s, Service Letters, Service Bulletins, FARs, CFR’s, Airworthiness Directives, and other manufacturer issued publications

  • Provide on-site support to Maintenance

  • Supervises project activities in various engineering departments by providing technical coordination, assistance and guidance to engineers

  • Takes on complete end-to-end responsibility for assigned projects, technical issues or concerns, reporting progress to management, and making recommendations on proposed courses of action

  • Develops and implements solutions to improve fleet dispatch reliability, passenger comfort and crew concerns; assigning projects to engineers to act on findings

  • Interfaces with equipment vendors, industry partners and authorities

  • Ensures high quality, clear instructions (Task Cards, Modification or repair procedures/drawings/illustrations) and deliverables are output from team

  • Timely accomplishment of assignments coming into the group, including resolution of CARs, CERIs, review/disposition of Alert Level investigations, IRG, MRRB, CAS activities, etc.

  • Ability to work on 717, 787, A321 and A330 fleet types

  • Professional development such as training, conferences and other related duties as assigned

  • Minimum Requirements*

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline from an accredited university, or alternatively 3 years of relevant experience in addition to technical education such as an A&P license

  • Experience managing direct employees or multidisciplinary projects

  • 4 years of aviation experience in the field of Aircraft Maintenance, Engineering, Quality Assurance or Regulatory Compliance

  • Experience and familiarity with certification, STCs, modification and repair of complex aircraft systems or components and installation on Part 121 aircraft.

  • Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat etc.

  • Able to obtain an SIDA/AOA badge

  • Valid driver’s license and passport

  • Demonstrated leadership ability with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong analytical and operational business skills

  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects to balance work within the group, ensuring important technical updates are provided to maintenance documentation in an expeditious manner

  • Must be able to promptly respond after hours (24/7). Must be able to travel, work flexible hours and work beyond regular hours, including weekends and holidays and non-traditional hours

  • This position is considered as an essential worker, required to work on-site to support Tech Ops and available for field assignments as required

  • Good organizational and prioritization skills and a demonstrated ability of acting as an effective change agent

  • Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to summarize complex technical matters. Must be able to confidently and professionally represent Hawaiian to members of federal authorities and industry

/ Please note that the provided salary information serves as a general guideline. Our salary is determined by a candidate's experience and qualifications as well as market and business considerations. The expected pay range is $104,000- $128,000./

  • Preferred Qualifications*

  • Engineering Degree / MBA / Advanced Degree / A&P License

  • Experience with TRAX maintenance software, particularly engineering module, authoring controls and task cards

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prepare and present progress updates to senior management, conduct basic financial analysis to determine cost/benefit relationships of engineering projects, and prepare business cases

  • Commercial aviation experience with FAR 121, in the field of Aircraft Maintenance, Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Regulatory Compliance

  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (Parts 25, 121, etc). Experience with Airworthiness Directives and Manufacturer Service Bulletins

  • Experience and familiarity with certification, STCs, modification and repair of complex aircraft systems, components and installation on Part 121 aircraft

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of aircraft/engine maintenance and specification documents, particularly IPC, AMM, WDM, SSM, TSM, SRM, FIM, etc.)
